This is all very confusing stuff I have the Shure sm58 and have always thought the audio was really quiet so on my interface (behringer u-phoria umc404hd ) I have been trying to get levels at between -12 to -6 db while recording to try and make it louder with out clipping and then further increasing the audio in post after recording. So it seems like I should try to aim for lower db range and then just increase it by much more in post.

I have been using the same sm58 units for a decade. 2 or three times a week, occasionally more. I also bought - a decade ago - 2 EV mikes where the advert showed them being bounced off a wall, run over by cars etc - which is why I bought them, but I kept those as backups just in case the 58's failed. We never used them because the 58's never did fail. Every few years I would take an EV out of the bag to test it. Upshot is both EV's died in storage -never used at gigs and the 58's continue to this very day -and will be used again tonight ! We have had zero problems with the 58's over more than a decade. At nearly 3 times the price of a 58, I'm not seeing a huge amount of attraction in the Nexadyne....

If the am8 was in a solid aluminum shell, it would be a super soilid mic for almost any user imo. I just got one and Im very impressed by it.

Am i the only one that is super disappointed with the design? The black and silver SM58/Beta58 look is so iconic, no clue why Shure decided to ditch that design language and make a mic that looks one RGB light away from being a gamer accessory

Ableton live is the easiest and most overlooked daw to use. From the first groove swing to mastering. Minus mouse clicks(pt,pre sonus,logic ,etc)and list searching that doesn’t move if you click the wrong place on your screen.

How about, instead of putting a giant black blob over your face, place a small diaphragm condenser, shotgun mic, or boundary microphone, slightly out of frame? It baffles me why anyone would use either of these mics in a VIDEO application

As of today, the SM48 is $69 on Amazon. It’s shocking what the microphone market has done in the last few years

Have you tried dropping the Nexadine on the ground ? Their robustness contributes to making the SM58 and 57 so all-around.

For live performances, there's very little reason to spend more than $100 on wired vocal mics. For recording, there's very little reason to spend less than $300 on vocal mics.

I want to save up to get one. I saw this one voice over artist who decided to live in a van and got one herself so he can work from her van life while still having a great audio sound.

I got a hum in mine. I only unboxed it today. I'm trying to use this mic on a ur44c. Literally been sitting in the box since about 6 months cos I can't seem to get rid of it. I heard there was a problem with the 770 but I don't know... anybody know the fix my fellow producers

Gigcaster 8 would also be good for 4 people group. Has bluetooth for seamless phone calls. 4 headphones. Tons of voice, singing, and guitar effects... ...and Auto Tune!!! Drop Mic. (Not the Shur SM7B; too expensive for my dropping budget)

Naaaaah! SM-58 can survive: -drunk rockers - angry neighbors - irrigation system - run over tractor - beer - vomit of drug addicted guitar player - snot - and global product shortages! Under touring, you get robbed? You left on the airport? No problem, You can find it anywhere, anytime, for 20$ So thanks, Sm-58 will be stay as king! Peace!

Your audio sucks. Too much hisss noise

I got an ultrasonic cleaner to clean off mic screens recently. Works fantastically. Does nothing for rust… at that point you gotta replace the ball end or whatever youre dealin with. Foam is just a replacement thing. Cost of doin business.

How does 32-bit float fit into all of this?

£280 is a hard sell for people looking at sub £100 SM58's

Speaking of radio, I wouldn't want to see the results from some of the 24/7 used RE-20s that had been in air studios for decades. I was way too close to those suckers for far too long.

I'm a firm believer the the beta 58 for not much more money than a standard 58 is far superior. As an audio engineer I do understand the legend of the 58. But never do I get asked for it over the beta. I recently did sound for the guys from Sister Hazel. Ken actually wanted to buy my beta at the end of the night. He said he needed one for some reason. He has some already and probably sponsored too. I have a case with four each of the beta and regular 58. Also two 57s, a 57 beta and another 58 with a switch. 12 mics in the case and 12 slots. I told Ken I couldn't have an empty spot. Lol. But you need to seriously try my God tier mic. The earthworks sr20. For the price, variety of use, and sound nothing comes close. And I even told Ken that. Lol. It even beats my Neumann kms105 for live vocals.

Amazing, however I wish to see how it's look like or feels holding a book inside the box. is it tiring? possible?

I'm going to give you a freebie here that has been annoying me so much. I want to buy this thing but so many things that really confuse me. The advertisement is "best mixer for podcasting and content creating" also for streamers.. ummm, every video is how to podcast and get the settings right but what about streamers? How do you setup the mixer to a computer? Once setup, can you assign a fader just to control discord mics? Can I set a fader just to music (control itunes, spotify, google music, chrome pages)? Can I set a fader just for my PlayStation 5 sounds? Can I have sounds that go to my headphones but not to the stream? So many questions on how the routing of sounds can be controlled from a board like this from the simple GoXlr mixer. Someone please make a video for how do streamers benefit from using this mixer not just "podcasters and content creators". And don't add streamers to the box or advertisement unless you are explaining the benefits for everyone. Thank you, happy video making lol

Great show. When I used to do private DJ Karaoke parties, I always cleaned the mics with alcohol and put new foam covers on. Yeah they would be dirty. (I bought them in bulk by the bags). Also I used a twin platter- twin cd deck, but I was the only one who touched that, the video monitors and speakers. I do think it's important to keep gear clean as you speak of.
